Weekend Edition: Wangfujing Street

Scenes from the night market:

When night fell on Friday, NAFAns headed to the night market on Wangfujing Street in search of Chinese candies, dumplings, peanut brittle, and... insects.

After delicately nibbling a fried scorpion on a stick, Cassidy remarked, "It tastes like a potato chip." Brian D. shrugged and responded, "Well, all insects taste that way."

"Leathery," Kurt declared after finishing a lightly salted tarantula. The tarantula had take

several large bites to get down, as the legs proved a bit awkward to manage.

Scorpions, caterpillars, snakes, silkworms, and beetles were just a few of the other delectable snacks on offer. For anywhere between 15 - 80 RMB (about $2.50 - 13), you too could get your own creepy crawler on a stick.

On a mission to find her beloved peanut brittle, Charlotte settled for a plate of dumplings, one scorpion, and a brick-like piece of brittle that the vendor had used a cleaver to chop.

She still hasn't finished that brittle.

And Laura? She avoided all insects and instead took pictures.
